Sequence of tasks according to the task’s pleasantness characteristic.

If work is divided into pleasant and unpleasant work, the work process should begin with the most unpleasant work for several reasons:

  1. Removal of obstacles: By doing the most unpleasant work at the beginning, we get rid of obstacles and difficulties that could distract us or cause negative emotions and stress during the rest of the tasks.
  2. Improved Productivity: A psychological phenomenon known as the Peeters effect (or Zeigarnik effect) states that tasks that evoke negative emotions or cause anxiety can have a negative impact on our concentration and productivity. By starting the workflow with unpleasant tasks, we get rid of this effect and can proceed to the rest of the tasks in a productive manner.
  3. Mood Enhancement: By doing the most unpleasant work first, we get a sense of accomplishment and overcoming. This can improve our mood and motivation to continue working.
  4. Creating positive energy: By starting with unpleasant work, we create a “release” effect during the next tasks, which we perceive as easier and more enjoyable. This can help us maintain positive energy and motivation throughout the work process.

In general, the choice between starting with pleasant or unpleasant work depends on individual preferences and the nature of the task. However, priority should be given to doing the most unpleasant tasks first in order to increase productivity and efficiency.
